A few days back i think you may came across a news in which Microsoft itself advised the Internet Explorer users not to use it because it has some serious security flaw and later released a software patch to fix the issue.
You may think that how serious attacks are possible through your browser. But most of the cyber criminals where using the flaw in the browsers as their advantage to attack your system.
When you reach the website which is created with the intention to attack your system, the malware (virus like program) automatically gets installed in your system and starts to work. When such malware starts working it will collect lots of information mainly your username and password which you are using to login some secured pages like your online bank account, e-mail etc., After collecting it will send those things to the criminals so its an easy task for them to get access your online bank account. Also some malware may cause some serious problem to your system. Even it will record your browsing habits i.e, your frequent searching words, list of your favourite websites etc.,
This happens even when you open the spam e-mails, also when you download some thing from not authorized sites. A study says that most of the victims of online attacks are Internet Explorer users.
The users can overcome this kind of attacks by keep updating the browser with the latest patches released by the corresponding company. A research says that only 59.1% percent of Internet users worldwide use the latest major version of their preferred web browser. Firefox users are the most attentive: 92.2% of them surfed with latest downloaded patches Only 52.5% of Microsoft Internet Explorer users are keep upgrading their browsers regularly. The study revealed that 637 million Internet users worldwide who use web browsers are either not running the latest version of their preferred browser or have not installed the latest patches.
So the internet users should understand that how seriously we should consider the security of the browser. Avoid using the old version of your browser when you are in internet.
